Annual "Dance on Camera" Series May 9 - 13
The Jacob Burns Film Center's (JBFC) annual film series "Dance on Camera" (May 9 - 13) includes a range of guest speakers from dancers to filmmakers, and a variety of films from around the world. Water Flowing Together filmmaker Gwendolen Cates and New York City ballet dancer Jack Soto join us for a discussion and reception on opening night, Fri. May 9.

Preview Screening of Beauty Mark at JBFC
The Jacob Burns film Center (JBFC) is proud to announce the preview screening of Beauty Mark on April 30 at 7:15 pm, as part of the "Celebrating Women Filmmakers" monthly series. Filmmakers Carla Precht, Kathleen Man, and Diane Israel, who are former Westchester residents, will participate in a Q&A following the screening.

Dominick Balletta Named Managing Director of the JBFC
The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) announced today that Dominick Balletta, former General Manager of Film Forum in NYC, will be joining the organization as Managing Director on May 15. In this newly created position,
Mr. Balletta will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Film Center and the Media and Education Center, scheduled to open this summer.

World Premiere of 30 Animated Films by Westchester 4th Graders
The
Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) announced today that 30 films made
by students from elementary schools throughout Westchester will be
shown at three red-carpet premiere events on January 24, 29, and
31, all at 6:00 pm. The animated films were created by fourth-graders
in the JBFC's "Animation:

World Premiere of 3 Documentary Films Created in JBFC's Unscripted Program

world premiere of three short documentary films on Tuesday, September
25 at 7pm. The films were created through the JBFC’s documentary
production program for high school students Unscripted, which
allows Westchester students to create a film based on the lives of
senior citizens in their community.

Batter Up! JBFC Announces new fall series, "Take
Me Out to the Movies: Baseball at the Burns"
The series, which begins Sept. 6 and runs until November,
includes a great lineup of movies, from Hollywood classics like Field
of Dreams to a documentary film about the Japanese high school
baseball competition, Kokoyakyu: High School Baseball,
and a full roster of guests including players, sportswriters, and
filmmakers.

JBFC Receives $65,000 Grant from the Westchester
Arts Council
The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville has received a grant
of $65,000, the maximum amount an arts organization is eligible to
receive in one year, from the Basic Support Grant of the Westchester
Arts Council with funds from Westchester County Government. The
funds will be used by the Film Center for general program support.

Middle and High School Students Raise Awareness and $70,000
for Darfur Relief Efforts
The 24-Hour Human Rights Film Marathon, hosted at the JBFC
and co-sponsored by the Westchester Holocaust and Human Rights Education
Center, featured groundbreaking films on the subject of genocide,
followed by Q&A sessions with notable
speakers. Over 500 students from 19 local schools participated, raising
$70,000 for Darfur relief agencies.

JBFC Receives $750,000 Grant for its Media
and Education Center from The Kresge Foundation
The Jacob Burns Film
Center (JBFC) announced today that it has received a $750,000 challenge
grant toward the construction of a Media
and Education Center from
The Kresge Foundation. The 25,000-square-foot Media
and Education Center is being created by the JBFC as part of the
Campaign for 21st Century Education, a major initiative to expand
its education programs. To date, over $13 million has been raised
towards a goal of $20 million.

New York City Schools Celebrate Completion of
Jacob Burns Film Center’s
"See • Hear • Feel • Film" Program
During the 2005-2006
school year, the JBFC brought its third-grade
film and visual literacy program, See • Hear • Feel • Film to
New York City District 7 (Region 9) schools in the South Bronx.
The
program was implemented in 30 classrooms in eight elementary
schools, and over 700 students participated. This is the only
writing-based visual literacy program for third graders in the
country.

The Jacob
Burns Film Center (JBFC) today
announced that The Biography Channel has become a sponsor of Unscripted,
the JBFC’s
intergenerational documentary production program.

in San Jose, CA in April, and is one of six organizations acknowledged
