CELEBRATING WOMEN FILMMAKERS
Outreach Program for Teenage Girls
Over the past two years, more than 250
teenage girls have come to the JBFC to see and discuss films from
around the world with directors, producers, programmers, and other
guests. Part of our “Celebrating Women Filmmakers” series —a
showcase for today’s remarkable women filmmakers and their
diverse and extraordinary work—the monthly outreach program
enables girls who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience
JBFC programming to learn about the art and the business of making
movies. While the films themselves serve as a jumping-off point
for the discussion of such issues as self image, violence, teen
pregnancy, and drug abuse, filmmaking is presented as an attainable
goal in the girls’ own lives, a message that is enhanced
by the participation of role models in the film business. This
free program is offered in collaboration with more than thirty
Westchester and Rockland County organizations that provide services
for at-risk youth. For information on this program, please contact
Eileen Farbman at 914-773-7663, ext. 45, or womenfilmmakers@burnsfilmcenter.org |

SENIOR
PROGRAMS
The JBFC invites seniors from retirement
communities and senior citizen centers to attend Senior
Movie Matinees four
times a year. When they arrive at the theater, participants
can choose from such favorites as Madea’s Family
Reunion, Grumpy Old Men, Sabrina or
a film from our regular programming. Cookies and soda are
served after the screenings. The program often features
special guests. |

SCREENINGS
UNDER THE STARS
This summer, the JBFC presented the third annual Screenings Under the Stars,
sponsored by Club Fit, Fujifilm, The Journal News, and the Westchester County
Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation. We presented five magical
films at four great locations: Kensico Dam Plaza, Pleasantville, Croton and
Yorktown. These free outdoor screenings, perfect for the entire family, served
more than
20,000 Westchester residents. |

ANNIVERSARY
SCREENINGS
We celebrate our anniversary each
year with the thousands of people who help to make our dream a
reality. The Jacob Burns Film Center is pleased to invite all members
to special Anniversary Screenings throughout the month of
June. These screenings are one way we thank our members for their
ongoing support of our film, education, and community outreach
programs. |

REEL
TALK
Started this year, Reel
Talk provides an opportunity for moviegoers to
enjoy informal, thought-provoking discussions facilitated
by a JBFC staff member after watching a film. This
new program reflects the Film Center’s mission
to expand the film-going experience through sharing
ideas. Reel Talk screenings include a short
introduction that may cover background on the film,
director, and the period in which the film was made,
as well as a few aspects of the film worthy of special
attention. Topics for discussion are determined by
the audience. The discussion is free to ticket buyers. Click
Here for info on upcoming Reel Talks.
